Barichu Karatina Cooperative

Farmers: Multiple
Altitude: 5,500-6,000 ft

The Karatina wet mill is located in the Nyeri District on the Southern flank of Mt. Kenya and is part of the Barichu Cooperative Society with about 1,450 small scale farmers, whose highland plots are rich in volcanic soil and are blessed with strategic rainfall. Hand-picked at their ripest, and carefully hand sorted, the cherries are fully washed with fresh river water from Ragati river and sundried on raised beds, allowing them to exhibit the classic Kenyan flavor profile that is balanced in fruitiness and acidity This coffee came to our attention through our friends at InterAmerican and we love as it is a wonderful example of true Kenya quality.
